C. A. WALLACE
I'm often in out-of-the-way places with poor internet, so sorry if it takes a little while for me to respond.
I worked up to the role of director from a runner, just like the guys I like to hang out with on set. And working up to something from nothing, without any foundational education, without connections to make life easier, means no-one ever tells you what you should and shouldn’t do. You have to learn on the spot, adapt constantly, avoid catastrophe and disguise or transform failure when it happens: because without contacts, without a showreel, without a pedigree, a visible failure might mean you never get another chance.
